I was recently reminded that the secret of making an organisation or a church's Vision to Reality is to continue casting (repeating) the same vision until there is a total buy-in. In other words, there must be a constant casting of the vision to the whole church until everybody understands and moving in the same direction.
Therefore, for the next few weeks, I will be sharing with you the DNA of Christ Church Likas. This is what the leadership of Christ Church (PCC) has adopted in 2007. This is our vision and goal as we grow beyond 40!
Acts 2:42-47 - they (believers) devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Everyday they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
The above passage has been the ministry priciples of the early churches. Though different methods and strategies were developed over the centuries, yet the core values of woship, discipleship and evangelism remain the pillars of every growing and healthy church. Likewise, Christ Church Likas will build her ministries around these core values.
The focus must be an Inside-Out approach of Discipleship and Churchmanship. It starts with the core of Prayer and Worship and grows towards a strong structure of nurturing, equipping and evangelism and ultimately fulfilling the Great Commission of Global mission and community service.
CORE: WORSHIP AND PRAYER

We seek to be a church strong in worship and prayer especially in our Sunday services. We aim to build a strong atmosphere of faith and the preaching of the Word of God. We seek to be a church with godly worshippers loving and worshipping God and support the work of the church wholeheartedly.
We also seek to be a church with members strong in their prayer life both privately as well as corporately (publicly) in Church Prayer Meeting. We want to see our Church become a strong prayer hub where prayers are lifted up to the Lord and testimonies of answered prayers and miracles become the way of life.

Our Rector Writes - 4 Jan
(Taken from the church bulletin, which I thought is great reading for all of us who belong to Christ Church Likas!)
Another year is dawning! Dear Father, let it be,
In working or in waiting, another year with Thee;
Another year of leaning upon Thy loving breast;
Another year of trusting, of quiet, happy rest;
The words of this hymn echoed in my mind as we enter 2009. Another year has dawned. And it is not just another year – it is a very significant year. We are 40! In biblical perspective, the number 40 is unique. The Bible recorded rain for forty days and nights in the days of Noah. It also recorded the forty years of Moses leading Israel in the Wilderness. Moses and Jesus fasted for forty days and night. 40 years also signifies one generation.
While we do not wish to read too much into the number 40 lest we get ourselves into all kinds of error and flaky ideas, it is nonetheless commonly accepted that the number 40 has been deemed as a period of testing either by trials or prosperity. It is also a period of chastisement (not judgment) and ends with a period of restoration, revival or renewal.
What I wish to share with you are my thoughts of the significance of 40 from the perspective of one generation. Christ Church Likas is now 40. One generation has grown up and now plays an important role in the life and witness of the Church. We must now begin to look for a new generation for the task ahead. The present generation must intentionally identify and train the younger ones to love and serve the Lord and to take leadership roles. The present generation must serve as a model and mentor to the new. This is the principle of multiplication as seen in 2 Timothy 2:2 - And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.
Let us ponder together the significance of 40. Like the hymnist Frances Havergal aptly wrote:
Another year of service, of witness for Thy love,
Another year of training for holier work above.
Another year is dawning, dear Father, let it be
On earth, or else in Heaven, another year for Thee.
Happy 40 Christ Church! May the Lord show us His favor and bless the works of our hands!

Riot of Colours
While the New Year background was nice, I thought it didn't have the lasting impact, so I decided to change to this. Red because Chinese New Year is around the corner, and Love cos Valentine's Day comes soon after CNY, so hey, kill two birds with one stone. And the colours are really a riot, bright and colourful colours befitting a youth blog!
This being the first week of school I know many of you will be very busy. Of course those who finished their SPM or STPM are 'goyang-kaki' lah, which can get quite tiring isn't it? It's not easy doing nothing, is it?. Haha. Our youth meetings will start this Saturday 10 Jan, and we have a guest speaker from Down Under! So you must all come attend k? Your contribution is needed!
Have you guys set your new year resolution yet? You know, something or an aim that you want to achieve, either to get straight A's, get a bf/gf (although I'd advise you to wait till you finish your studies), start reading the Bible regularly, pray more often, less Dota (ahem!), don't fall asleep during sermons, or don't talk during sermons (a bigger AHEM!).. ah, these are all things you can think of if you don't have any ideas on new year resolutions! May this year be a riot of colours for you all!
