The Mango Tree

I heard this story last month which really made sense to me, but you be the judge...

There was this man who decided to plant a mango tree, so he took a drive to the nursery to pick out a nice plant (plant nursery please.... not those places you send little kids to while parents go to work!) and took it home to plant. He went around his garden to find the most suitable place for it and after deciding on the place, he got out his shovel/spade and proceeded to plant the tree. He diligently watered it, weeded the area and also put fertiliser every so often so the tree would grow. And grew it did, to become a strong and healthy tree. The man then pruned the tree, cutting down branches he deemed not healthy enough. After a few years have passed (which would seem long if you were aiming to eat the nice succulent mango!) the tree began fruiting.

The man was so happy to see little mangoes hanging from the branches and made sure the tree had enough water. The fruits grew bigger as the days went by and the man waited for the day when the fruits would ripen so he could taste the first fruit of the tree. How exciting for him. As he look upon the tree, the man decided that tomorrow, he will pluck the mangoes hanging from the branches because they looked so ripe and juicy, yellow at the stem. He went to bed imagining biting into one of those fruit, and how nice it would be.

The next morning, he got out of bed and went to his kitchen to get a basket and also a ladder around the back of his house and went to the mango tree. He stopped short at the sight of the tree, mango-less. During the night, someone had come into the house and took all the mangoes! Turns out, his neighbour had come in and taken his mangoes.

If you were the man... how would you feel?

To be continued....
