Defence of the Ancients

Defense of the Ancients (often referred to as DotA) is a custom scenario for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft. The objective of the scenario is to destroy the opponents' "Ancient", a heavily guarded structure in each corner of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters called "creeps". As in role-playing games, players level up their hero and use gold to buy equipment during the mission.

Gameplay
Defense of the Ancients pits two teams of players against each other: the Sentinel and the Scourge. Players on the Sentinel team are based at the southwest corner of the map, and those on the Scourge team are based at the northeast corner. Each base is defended by towers and waves of units which guard the main paths leading to their base. In the center of each base is the "Ancient", a building that must be destroyed to win the game.

Each human player controls one Hero, a powerful unit with unique abilities. In Allstars, players on each side choose one of ninety heroes, each with different abilities and tactical advantages over other heroes. The scenario is highly team-oriented; it is difficult for one player to carry the team to victory alone. Nevertheless, some heroes, given enough time, can change the outcome single-handedly, while countering the opposing team's heroes. Defense of the Ancients allows up to ten players in a five versus five format and an additional two slots for referees or observers, often with an even number of players on each side.

Because the gameplay revolves around strengthening individual heroes, it does not require one to focus on resource management and base-building, as in most traditional real-time strategy games. Killing computer-controlled units earns the player experience points; when enough experience is accumulated, the player gains a level. Leveling up improves the hero's toughness and the damage it can inflict, and allows players to upgrade their spells or skills. In addition to accumulating experience, players also manage a single resource: gold. The typical resource gathering of Warcraft III is replaced by a combat-oriented money system; in addition to a small periodic income, heroes earn gold by killing hostile units, base structures, and enemy heroes. Using gold, players buy items to strengthen their hero and gain abilities. Certain items can be combined with recipes to create more powerful items. Buying items that suit one's hero is an important tactical element of the scenario.

The above is taken from Wikipedia. The guys must think I'm a hero for publishing this, and the girls think I'm mad. I'm neither and this isn't an endorsement nor approval of the game. I posted this up for the benefit of the girls, actually, as an information on what is DotA that drives the guys to go to cyber every week or what that glues them to their computer screens. Maybe this would be a piece of entirely senseless information, haha, you be the judge, ok?

And for the guys, I will not debate on whether this is a good game to play (it may be challenging, exciting and thrilling) and many of your parents will probably be on either side of the argument. I will however say this; don't let the game be addictive that you only think, eat and sleep it.

Recipe - Easy-peasy Pizza

Here's something for you to do in case you are bored during your school hols:

Ingredients
1 french loaf, sliced about 1/2 inch thick
1 small tin tomato paste
1 cube (250gm) mozzarella cheese, grated
1/2 packet sausages, sliced thinly (or just chuck the whole packet in lah!)
1 tin pineapple, sliced thinly
1 tin mushroon, sliced thinly
1 large onion, diced (that's cube to you!)

Method
1. Heat oven to 180C.
2. Spread tomato paste onto one side of the sliced french loaf.
3. Put sausages, pineapple, mushroom and onion in a large bowl, mix well.
4. Spread mixture (3) onto the bread.
5. Top with the grated mozzarella cheese.
6. Arrange pizzas on a baking tray and bake in the oven for about 15 minutes, or until cheese melts and turn golden brown.
7. Try to let pizza cool down before you gulp them down!! hahaha

In fact, you can basically put any ingredients you want, like ham and bacon, or fish (urgh!), sardines, whatever you fancy! Have fun trying, but if you mess up your mom's kitchen, that's not my problem! Hahahaha.... Enjoy!

How Can I Be Sure of My Faith?

Our Alpha journey continued last Saturday with "How can we be sure of our faith" and we had 21 people. We started with a 'lurve' game, which got everyone so excited but then it turned out to be 'Love your neighbour'.. well, it's still a lurve game ma! Then we went on to another more exciting and rough game which was played the week before; Bum Shuffling! Haha.. or Hot seats, whatever you call that game. It involves two groups who try to seat their way across a row of chairs to the opponent's area. Things can get pretty violent when bums clash!

Our visitor to our meeting was certainly intimidated by that game and he wisely stayed out of the way while the youths indulge. We had the company of a final year student from the Singapore Bible College, Eric. He will be joining us in CCL for the next one and a half months on attachment. We welcome him. Some of us went for a drink with him after youth meeting and we were reintroduced to 'cold jokes'... oh boy, we haven't had cold joke jokers for a while now! Hahahaha.. some of us may remember our dear friend Nicholas... and the 'crow effect.'

What was the lesson learned? That the Trinity of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit all help us to be sure of our faith. The promises that God the Father made in the Bible, that Jesus stands at the door of our hearts and knocks, and if we open the door and let Him in, He will never ever leave us. Another promise is eternal life that we have, once we accepted Christ into our hearts. Isn't it amazing God's love for us? And this super-duper-excellent-cannotgetfromanyoneelse gift is FREE. Yup, it's a free gift of eternal life. The only condition is that we have to accept this gift, which is as hard as sitting on a chair! That ain't hard, silly! Duh!

We also learnt of the sacrifice that Jesus did for us, that He died on the cross for our sins. And He sent the Holy Spirit to help and to change us from inside out; a change in our characters and also changes in how we treat people and our relationship with God. We also learnt a little bit of the Trinity. Of course pastors can preach whole load of sermons on this, but we just learnt the basics, that is - one God in 3 persons, kinda like how we see water, steam and ice; same substance but different specs. I believe this Alpha journey is certainly an eye-opener for some of us, and a refresher course for others, but either way, this journey of discovery should fall on fertile ground. That is my prayer!

So, we will be taking a break from youth meeting this week as many of you start your ten day hols. Don't forget about the Mission Conference everyone! Happy holidays! Stay outta trouble, k? Happy RTM!

Member's Blogging - Jenny

This is the 3rd week of our youth alpha and the title is 'WHY DID JESUS DIE?'

Just a little recap for this session:

The Problem:We all have sin. Sin pollutes us and make us unclean. Sin separates us from God.

The Solution:God loved us so much that He took our place and suffered the results of our sins. Jesus' death on the cross took care of the results of sin once and for all. The most incredible thing is that He chose to die for us.

The Results:We can begin to know God and have a relationship with Him. He gives us eternal life.It is so amazing that God loves each of us and longs to be in a relationship with us. If you had been the only person in the world, Jesus would have died for you. If we believe that Jesus suffered on the cross for us, and say sorry for the things we have done wrong, we can know God.

Warmth
We started off with fun and jolly ice-breaker led by our game master, Clement Kwong. This time, instead of playing the o'l time favourite 'Mafia', we played 'Big-Wind Blow' and 'reaching to the end-point' game. (I am not very sure the name of the game.)

Worship
Thereafter, Praise and Worship led by Mark was really awesome.. The youths were really into praising God with all their voices and this really amazed me.

Welcome
It was really glad to see 25 youths there for this Youth Alpha course.

Word
This is the first time I have ever shared the Word and also take one topic from Youth Alpha. Sharing and leading praise & worship or even playing the piano up stage are totally different things. I can play the piano on stage without having stage fright (well, sometimes I still do..), even leading worship I am also comfortable, but when it comes to sharing, I am really terrified and anxious, yet at the same time excited about it. I really hope that the youths enjoy the talk. All in all, I really thank God for His kind guidance. His strength is perfect when our strength is gone.

(Heartsonfire comment: Thanks Jen for holding the fort while I'm away. You're great! Proud of you. )

What's Missing?

(Taken from Devotions for Teens - Susie Shellenberger)

The following announcements were found in church bulletins.
  • Miss Charlene Mason sang "I Will Not Pass This Way Again," giving much pleasure to the congregation.
  • Ladies, don't forget the garage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Don't forget your husbands.
  • The sermon this morning: "Jesus Walks on the Water."
  • The sermon tonight: "Searching for Jesus."
  • For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.
  • Potluck supper Sunday at 5PM. Prayer and medication to follow.

Isn't it interesting how misplaced or missing punctuation, spelling errors, or a simple rewording of a sentence can change the entire meaning? It's obvious that something's missing in the above statements. But what may not be so obvious is what's missing in your relationship with Christ.

If Christianity is starting to feel boring to you, or if you think something may be lacking, it may be time to take a spiritual examination. Answer the following questions:

1. Do I have a daily quiet time with my Saviour?

2. Am I involved in church and plugged into a youth group?

3. Am I growing in a Bibly study?

4. Is Jesus Christ as real to me as my hands and feet?

5. Do I know the sound of God's voice?

If you can't answer yes to all of the above questions, you may need to get more serious about the time you spend with God. If you've never disciplined yourself to having a daily devotional time with God, now's the time to make some changes!

Food For Thought

(Taken from God's Little Devotional Book for Teens)

You can lead a boy to college, but you cannot make him think.

At Princeton, Woodrow Wilson was first a teacher and later president of the university. Although he was popular with the students, he did have a reputation for cracking down on students who were not serious in their pursuit of an education.

The mother of one young man who was expelled for cheating made a trip to Princeton to talk wtih Wilson. She pleaded with him to reinstate her son because of the possible adverse reaction his expulsion would have on her own health and reputation. She told him of an impending operation and said she felt certain she would die if her son were not readmitted. Wilson heard her pleas and then responded, taking a very tough stance, "Madam, you force me to say a hard thing. If I had to choose between your life or my life or anybody's life and the good of this college, I should choose the good of the college."

Failure to study and apply oneself fully to one's studies is a form of rebellion. The same holds for cheating. Do your best in school. Don't blame a teacher for being too hard on you, when the blame actually lies in your being too easy on yourself. Learn to be a thinker!

It is senseless to pay tuition to educate a rebel who has no heart for truth. Proverbs 17:16 TLB

ARE YOU MODEST?

1. The coolest girl in your class is throwing a costume party, and a bunch of your gal pals decide to dress as pop stars (i.e. Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, etc.) You decide to
a. hit the mall and search for something "steamy."
b. go in a costume that won't be revealing, even if that means doing your own thing.
c. find the most non-revealing, but still sexy outfit.

2. Are you angry at the fact that you're not allowed to wear whatever you want in order to protect your brothers in Christ?
a. Sometimes. I don't understand why I have to dress appropriately, but I still feel obligated to do so.
b. Yes. I'm upset because it seems like I've no freedom of choice.
c. No. I understand that I need to put others above my own interests.

3. How would you describe your crush?
a. Cute, fun, nice
b. Hot, sexy, fun to flirt with
c. Godly, moral character, complementary personality

4. How do you think about and act around guys?
a. In general, my thoughts, actions, words and appearance glorify Christ and honor the opposite sex.
b. I know what is attractive to guys, and I have to admit that I take advantage of that.
c. Sometimes it's tempting to become a person who takes advantage of guys, but I also know that modesty is expected of me.

5. When you're hanging out with your guy friends, what does the conversation center on?
a. Flirty banter
b. Not too different from your girlfriends — minus the shopping
c. A little bit of both — flirtatiousness and casual conversation

6. You and your date for the homecoming dance have different ideas about what is and isn't classified as dancing. Let's just say your mom wouldn't approve of his way. You
a. are a little confused, but follow his lead. You imitate the other girls on the dance floor who don't seem to mind it at all.
b. tell him to find another partner. You really want to dance, but not like that.
c. decide that this is how dances are.

7. What do you spend the most time trying to improve about yourself?
a. Hair, makeup, clothing, body
b. Character
c. Um, that's convicting. I should focus more on my character, but I probably spend more time on my appearance.

8. You drop your pencil on the floor at school, and you're wearing a new V-neck sweater. You
a. bend over at the waist and give the class a nice view of your bust.
b. bend over at the waist, holding your shirt in place, making sure nothing inappropriate shows. c. aren't sure what you'd do, but have probably done both.

Scoring
1. a=3, b=1, c=2
2. a=2, b=3, c=1
3. a=2, b=3, c=1
4. a=1, b=3, c=2
5. a=3, b=1, c=2
6. a=2, b=1, c=3
7. a=3, b=1, c=2
8. a=3, b=1, c=2

Under 12 points You have a grasp of modesty at its best. Your behavior can be commended. Stay aware of those issues so you'll continue growing into a godly woman.

12-20 pointsYou want to honor God, but when it comes to modesty you don't always know how or why to be modest. Your heart is right. Continue seeking God with those issues and He'll bring you understanding.

More than 20 points Whether you're aware of it or not, your behavior and attitude in the area of modesty doesn't always honor God. Think about your motives for your behavior. Then pray that you'd desire righteous living.

Stupid Questions

(Taken from Devotions for Teens-Susie Shellenberger)

If the Number Two pencil is really the most popular, why is it still number two?

Why is there Braille on the drive-through ATM machines?

If you try to fail, and succeed at failing, which have you done?

If all the world's a stage, where's the audience sitting?

There's a story in the Gospel of John that includes what seems like a stupid question. John 5:1-18 tells of a man who had been paralyzed for many years. Jesus found him in Jerusalem at Bethesda - a pool of water that was rumoured to be stirred by angels. Legend stated that the first person into the water after it had been stirred would be healed.

This pool was probably a hot spring or sulfur water that bubbled up from the ground. This particular man had waited by the pool for 38 years, hoping someday to be the first to touch the water's surface after it stirred in its mysterious way.

Jesus saw the man lying by the pool and approached him. "Do you want to get well?" he asked.

Do I want to get well? The paralyzed man may have thought. What kind of question is that? Why else would I have spend almost four decades lying beside a pool of water?

At first glace, it might seem as though Jesus asked a stupid question. After all, Jesus is God. He knows everything. He knew exactly how long the man had lain by the pool's edge, and he knew why. Yet he still approached the paralytic with the question, "Do you want to get well?" Since we know that Jesus is the source of all wisdom, there must be more to the question that we first see.
People don't understand the ways of God. Noah probably thought it was a stupid idea to build an ark. Up to that point in history, rain hadn't existed. The earth was watered by a daily dew. Only after the flood did God choose to water the earth with rain.

So, never having heard of rain, Noah may have thought it was a stupid idea to build a boat big enough to hold his entire family and two of each creature that roamed the earth. And why was he building this boat? To save himself, his loved ones, and the animals from huge torrents of "rain" he couldn't even imagine. But he trusted, and he obeyed.

God's infinite ways are beyond our finite thinking. When God's plan seems stupid on the surface, know there's much more behind it that could be life-changing!

Shopping!

(Source unknown)

As I was walking down life's highway, I came upon a sign that read "Heaven's Grocery Store." When I got a little closer, the doors swung open wide and I walked through the entrance. I saw a host of angels. One handed me a shopping cart and instructed me to fill it.

I headed down the aisles and noticed that everything anyone would ever need was in that store. Just when I began to wonder how I would ever carry everything, an angel approached me and said, "Whatever you can't carry, you can come back for."

I first grabbed some Patience. Then I found a huge box of Understanding. Can't have too much of that, I mused. So I grabbed an extra box. Then I noticed Love in the same row and put an oversized load of that in my cart.

Next I got some Wisdom and a couple of bags of Faith. I couldn't overlook Charity, so I grabbed that too. Oh my goodness, I thought, the Holy Spirit's here! He's all over the place - plentiful as can be! So I took a generous helping and then came upon Strength.

Realising I'd need that to help me through the tough times ahead, I didn't hesitate to put some in my cart. And then I came upon Courage. Gotta have that, too.

My cart was getting full, but I remembered I needed Grace. Then I chose Salvation and rejoiced inwardly that it was free. Wow! I thought. I've got everything I need to do God's will.

But as I moved toward the cashier, I noticed Prayer. I'll need a lot of that, I reasoned, because when I step outside this store, I'll be stepping right into a world of sin. So I stocked up on Prayer and couldn't help but notice Peace and Joy. They were plentiful, so I helped myself. And right next to the cashier's counter, I noticed Praise and Worship, so I placed them on top.

Then I said to the angel working the cash register, "How much do I owe?"

But he just smiled and said, "Take them everywhere you go."

So I repeated the question: "Really, How much do I owe?"

"My child," he said, "God paid your bill a long, long time ago."

Away From Home - Leon

Hey hi all from kl ...though it's really not that far away hehehe but anyhow caroline want me to write some stuff woh hahahaha (Heartsonfire comment - The youths miss you lah.. esp the guys!, I wonder why? Hmmmmmmmmm... like start with a D... )

here goes ..hopefully won't bore u all to death lah. well currently have onli worked about 10 days but after a session with a senior i kinda found out what is required of me.

As a CRA (Clinical Research Assosciate) I have the responsibility of looking after a site that is doing research. Basically this involves frequent visits to a site to determine the progress of the research being done. Besides that, CRA are supposed to check if the ppl doing reserach are not violating any protocol and of course ethics issues becos this research mostly involve human subjects (dun worry it's my job to make sure that the researchers dun treat u all like guinea pigs hehehe).

This job also requires an eye for minute details so that whenever our sponsor have any questions, we can answer them.Since this job also involve big names in the phramaceutical industry so it's quite stress as well.

So in short, a CRA is basically a watchdog that makes sure that all research is done properly and without endangering other ppl's lives.

At the moment, i'm pretty much settled in ..just that i dun have any internet connection (why why why??!! can't live without you !!) but i'm still doing fine hehehe

oh and from time to time i'll post some stuff to caroline ... some inspirational stuff or some teachings i've manage to find but anyways if u can't wait ..there's always my blog zecount.multiply.com (self promo pula hahaha ). Anyways God bless all of you and may u all learn much much more during youth alpha.

Bro far away
Leon

p.s. aiya ...as if dota still cannot kill ppl meh ... mafia summore (shaking head) u ppl ah
lost for words with all to say ~~

Who Is Jesus?

Last Saturday, we went into Alpha proper by discovering Who Is Jesus. We started with Clement on games. You know, I've noticed that Clement loves to play Mafia, guess he likes the idea of killing people, as long as it stays as a game, k? Kidding, kidding! I also noticed there are always those people who loves killing people, even though they were not chosen as mafia! People like Aaron L.. hmmm! Fake mafia!

So we discovered that Jesus was more than human, he is also son of God, and God the Son! Those are two different thing, yet the same. Heheh.. we also looked into certain conspiracy theories and the problems with those. All in all, it was pretty interesting although the boys certainly love playing with fire. Something wired in their brains, I think! Fire because we had this little 'light the candle' time of renewal of our spiritual lives with Jesus.

We also gave out a little reward to Hannah T for bringing 2 new friends, a little incentive! Yeah... and Daniel will also get one cos he brought Nathan along. They got reload cards! We encourage everyone to bring new friends to Alpha.. although I know many of you mentioned that your friends belong to other youth groups.. so we gotta widen our circle of friends! Hehe.. Start cracking your brains see which friend you could bring ok?

Last but not least, a big hand to Rachel for leading the Form 1-2 group during Buzz Grp. She has been our assistant leader for a year and is now leading, with Hannah K to assist her. I am really glad for her commitment and willingness to take charge, although I bet she's nervous and anxious. You go girl! You can do it. So calling all her group members, support Rachel ok, don't give her a hard time lah!

Have a great week everyone!

My Precious...

Have you ever realised that many a time we do not cherish people or things around us? Remember when we first got a new toy, either a PS11 (or is it PS111 now?), a new handphone or IPod, we would handle it so carefully and if any of our friends would dare to accidentally drop it, we would scream their heads off. But over time, we become used to our toys and we don't really care about the little scratches, knocks and bumps inflicted on them. I remember how one of us treated her old handphone, before she bought a new one, she chucked it on the table, knocking it nonchalantly. She said that it's 'sot already' so never mind the rough treatment. Oh, you know who you are! Hahaha.. if you can't guess already.. give me a buzz!

What about people? Sometimes we find that we also treat people like how we treat our toys, not appreciative nor with TLC (translation for clueless ones - tender loving care). More specifically, I'm talking about our mothers. I should have posted something yesterday since we celebrated Mother's Day yesterday, I'm a day late with this posting, never mind lah.. hehe. So, back to our topic, Mothers.

We tend to take our mothers for granted, don't we? That she's always there, always there to feed us, ferry us to school, tuition, movies, give us allowances, care for us when we're sick. It's mom who does all those things tirelessly and lovingly. Oh of course we do get some weird moms once a while, but it's always someone else's mom, not our moms. Our moms are well.... normal lah. When was the last time we took care of our moms? When we put their feelings ahead of ours? When was the last time the world was about our moms and not about us? When she asked us to go shopping with her and you go only after many threats and scolding?

My friend's auntie passed away recently due to a fall. She was an elderly lady and had 5 children. When she passed away, her children were all filled with regrets, because they never got a chance to say goodbye, a chance to tell their old mom that they love her. Don't be regretful when our loved one is no longer around. Be grateful when they are around and treat them with love. Some of us lost our mothers early in life, and we feel for them. I hope we will treat our mothers like a precious jewel, and not like a worn out toy.

p/s And don't just treat her like a queen ONLY for a day man!

Bee = You?

When you do the things you have to do when you have to do them, the day will come when you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

Haha.. quite a stunner, isn't it? But think about that while you read this story I got from a book..

The bee is often described as being "busy." It deserves this adjective! To produce one pound of honey, a bee must visit 56,000 clover heads. Since each head has sixty flower tubes, a bee must make a total of 3,360,000 visits. In the process, the average bee would travel the equivalent of three times around the world.

To make just one tablespoon of honey, the amount that might go on a biscuit, a little bee must make 4,200 trips to the flowers, averaging about ten trips a day, each trip lasting approximately twenty minutes. It visits four hundred different flowers.

Day in, day out, the work of a bee is fairly unglamourous. It flies, it takes in nectar, it flies some more, and it deposits nectar. But in the process, it produces, and what it produces creates a place for it in the hive.

You may think your daily chores are a waste of time. But in fact, your completion of those chores is "making" you. One day, you won't even have to think: I must get disciplined. I must get to work, I must stick with it. If you have done your chores faithfully and to the best of your ability, the chores will have become a part of the way you tackle every challenge the rest of your life.

Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. Proverbs 10:4

You may be thinking, "what? chores become a part of the way you tackle every challenge? you're crazy, man!". I hate to break it to you guys, but it's true. I remember dad used to nag me to save electricity & water and would be on my case if I didn't switch off the lights in my room when I leave it... now, I'm an adult and I automatically switch off the lights whenever I leave my room and I in turn nag my little niece and nephews! What goes around comes around!.. hehehehe..

So think about that the next time your parents nag at you, it's "you" in the making!

The Mango Tree - Conclusion

If you were the man, how would you feel? ...

Now, I must state that the issue isn't about the neighbour stealing the fruits, it's about the man's feelings. Shouldn't the man be the first one to taste the fruit? Doesn't he have the right to? After all his tender loving care? You're all probably saying "of course, duh!" Anyone in their right minds would agree to that, and would be indignant that the neighbour got to taste the fruit rather than the man himself!

This story illustrates what happens when we further our studies, either overseas or to W. M'sia and you're away from CCL. As you look for a church to worship in, there may be many factors that cause you to attend a certain church; friends are there, nearest to your house, easy to get to, you feel comfortable there etc, do you actually consider going back to an Anglican church? Or it could be that there's no Anglican church there, fair enough if that's the case. If there were two churches near each other, an Anglican or another denomination, which would you choose?

Often times we think about ourselves, whether we feel at home, whether we find any friends there. And if we know of our friends in another church, we will not hesitate to hop. (I am talking about when we're outside of our home city, ok?) I have never thought about what our priests and pastors feel, in this case, they would be the man with the mango tree. Their thoughts are: "don't we, the Anglican church, have the right to our young people? Can't we taste the fruit of our labour?" And it pains them to see youths going to another church. Truly it does. Lest you think I'm making this up, I heard this mango tree story from AD JY, who in turn, heard it from Bishop AV. So.. this is from the top, guys.

This is the plea. I commend Grace, and Elias, and all those who chose to go to FCC simply because it's the Anglican church. I do not wish to put criticism or guilt on others who aren't going FCC, but I simply state what our Bishop, priests and pastors think.

Doesn't our church have the right? Can't we taste the first fruit of our labour?

Imagination....Ahhh,another skill that can only be used by humans.Imagination- the ability to produce a random derivation of an actual reality. This is my definition of imagination.

What we imagine may/may not be accurate. For example, you can imagine having the girl/boy of your dreams and cuddling with him/her under the moonlight and watching the stars as you both talk all night long. But in reality, the situation may be different. You may be on the phone with the girl and telling her how beautiful the stars are tonight and telling her how much you would like to cuddle her in your arms. And of course she would say the same thing.Imagination can only come from one place, your brain. But many there are many sources that can affect a certain imagination.

Lets just take television. You watch a horror movie, say Ju-On.And on that night somehow you imagine things or feel that its extra chilly that night.Or take a romantic movie.A young teenage couple sitting on the car watching the stars. And on that night you would imagine you and your spouse together doing those sweet things you see on tv.

Can imagination actually affect sweet dreams and nightmares?Well,it has not been sceintifically accurately proven. But I believe that it does affect in a way or another.Having an imaginative mind can improve your creativity and innovation. But at the same time it may shatter your high hopes towards a certain situation.

Based on all this,I can prove that IMAGINATION IS ONLY A RANDOM DERIVATION OF AN ACTUAL REALITY.

(Heartsonfire comment - So Walt, what IS your imagination, about a girl and about sitting under the starry moonlight? Hehe.. reality is.. there may be a girl and there definitely will be loads of nyamuk biting the heck out of your romance, plus you will be sweating cos it's so darn hot... hate to burst your bubble but that's reality, man! ~ sorry, I just had to say my piece, so sue me!)

The Mango Tree

I heard this story last month which really made sense to me, but you be the judge...

There was this man who decided to plant a mango tree, so he took a drive to the nursery to pick out a nice plant (plant nursery please.... not those places you send little kids to while parents go to work!) and took it home to plant. He went around his garden to find the most suitable place for it and after deciding on the place, he got out his shovel/spade and proceeded to plant the tree. He diligently watered it, weeded the area and also put fertiliser every so often so the tree would grow. And grew it did, to become a strong and healthy tree. The man then pruned the tree, cutting down branches he deemed not healthy enough. After a few years have passed (which would seem long if you were aiming to eat the nice succulent mango!) the tree began fruiting.

The man was so happy to see little mangoes hanging from the branches and made sure the tree had enough water. The fruits grew bigger as the days went by and the man waited for the day when the fruits would ripen so he could taste the first fruit of the tree. How exciting for him. As he look upon the tree, the man decided that tomorrow, he will pluck the mangoes hanging from the branches because they looked so ripe and juicy, yellow at the stem. He went to bed imagining biting into one of those fruit, and how nice it would be.

The next morning, he got out of bed and went to his kitchen to get a basket and also a ladder around the back of his house and went to the mango tree. He stopped short at the sight of the tree, mango-less. During the night, someone had come into the house and took all the mangoes! Turns out, his neighbour had come in and taken his mangoes.

If you were the man... how would you feel?

To be continued....

Pesky Time

Hi everyone, sorry if the dates of the postings look confusing, when I asked you to go to church on a Saturday (in one of the previous post). I forgot to change the time and it was stuck at USA time or something like that. But anyway, I've corrected that so it should be showing the proper time from now on. How is your Monday? crappy? Welcome to my world then, hahahaha. We may always get crappy Mondays but what's important is our attitude in facing the crappiness!

AT LAST!! We finally have something extraordinary... YOUTH BLOG!! This is super cool and great!Caroline text me on Friday saying that the blog is all set up and ready for viewing. This is so cool.. so, when I came back home, I switch on my laptop straightaway and log into the website, and to my surprise, it's REALLY THERE! hahaha.... of course, I did pen down some comments on it just to ensure that I came in before... *weee*Anyway, glad that Waltson came in already and he commented something. What a great encouragement that he gave and it really set our hearts on fire as he commented that our CCL youths are exciting and not boring at all! Amen!

Youth Alpha - We started our Youth Alpha last night and it will be on for 10 weeks and I am really looking forward for it. :) We start off with really something simple yet interesting, which is known as ICE-BREAKER.. Caroline really break the ice by playing - century eggs (hmm... not for eating..), creating longest line.. (not sure to where?), and Mafia (Sonia, you are really great!) .. if you miss this, you are actually missing the great part following this --- which is the sharing by non other than our very prominent speaker --- Caroline... *Applause please* Hahaa.. The sharing was good and I am very encouraged by it as I am reaffirming my faith to my dear Daddy in Heaven. Seriously, I can't wait for the next alpha session... Get ready guys... fasten your seat belts for another challenging session...

All in all, I am really grateful and thankful that everything went on very well and smoothly.. Thanks to our dear Daddy in Heaven who is always with us and also thanks to all the youth leaders who have really placed their commitments in serving as leaders in the youth ministry, to all my naughty and playful youths who supported me, and also to our dear Head Youth Leader, Caroline, thanks for your never-ending, never-tiring, never-stopping encouragement, support and love towards each of us. I am really glad to have you as my leader whom I can look up to, my friend whom I can share my thoughts, and my dear sister whom I really can depend on. Thanks so much! (Heartsonfire comment - no problem, that's what I'm here for!)

Keep Logging On

I'm greatly encouraged to see people coming in to check out this blog. More importantly, I'm glad they are contributing to this, so keep it coming ok, Jenny & Waltson, and may more come in and make this blog totally awesome! This belongs to all of us.

I will be putting in pictures soon, so be patient and if there's anything else you can suggest, drop in a line ya? If you want to contribute a posting, like Jenny & Waltson, just write an email and send it to cclyouths@live.com and I will post it asap.

And if we have adults coming in to check out the place, we welcome you, but if you find our lingo a little strange, don't worry, it's a youth blog after all, so stay and browse and after a while, you will adjust to our language.. hehe. Generation gap is there but doesn't mean we have to get upset about it! Youth rocks!

Alpha Sails!

Oh yeah, we started Alpha with a bang tonight. First we played an evolutionary gone wrong game (Egg & Chicken) followed by a totally SS game of making the longest line, then ended with Mafia which Sonia totally beat the heck out of everyone to end up being the coolest undetected mafia! Real good mafia, girl! Then we had P&W led by Jenny, and onto the sharing by Caroline. One said the jokes were lame (ish... can't please everybody, huh?) but I hope the sharing got through. It was pretty enjoyable, judging from the ruckus and noise levels during the refreshment. We had pizza and soft drinks and that always put everyone in a good mood, no?

We had 24 youths altogether tonight and it was really fun to see everyone there. Hannah T brought 2 friends, Melvin & Melissa, and we also had Vanessa who came to give us moral support, thanks so much, Vanessa, you're the best. Of course we enticed her to stay on longer, but like I said, no pressure.. hahahahah.. Tonight's sharing was on 'Christianity, is it boring? untrue? irrelevant?' and the answer is a big fat NO! Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and with him on our side, our lives are full of meaning, purpose and fun!

We haven't announced our blog to everyone yet, but we will get there eventually, more like next meeting k? So ta.. and everyone, make sure you go to church tomorrow huh? Have a blessed day!

Always Time For Everything

Yo wassssup? We've just created a blog for CCL youths, a place for everyone to come and find out who's doing what and what's going on in youth etc. I don't know why it took us so long to do this, but it just hit me two days ago that it'll be great if the youths do have a blog!

Like I said, this will be a place for everyone to come find out what's going on. Now, mind you, this isn't a gossip column (Mr so and so broke up with ms who and who) nor is it a dating agency so we will be walking a fine line between news and gossip, k? Har har..

This will also be a place for our Away From Home youths to log in and feel a little bit at home! And also to find out what's happening in youth. We will also be telling their stories so we will know what's going on in their part of the world. They may be far from us physically, but they are never far from our hearts! Aww.. aren't you so touched?

If anyone wanna add a posting to this blog, it's also possible, just write your piece and send it to the email address and I promise we'll load your piece asap. Of course we will have the liberty to err... add/delete what you say!

Lastly, I want to say that this blog won't be possible without contribution and comments from everyone. I don't want to SS here, k? (I do that in my own blog, hehehe) so please let's all start clicking and commenting and adding! Wat ru waiting for?

Confirmation

Last night was Confirmation Nite and for a few of the youths, this was the time! Normally we think of confirmation as being finally able to take communion during church services, eating the bread and wine. It's not just that, confirmation. It's actually a time where you make the vows to commit yourself to Jesus. If you were baptised as a baby, your parents took those vows for you. Confirmation is when you yourself take the vows. And for those who were baptised as a youth or adult, confirmation is a time where you re-affirm those vows.

So last night, we had a few youths confirmed by the Bishop, namely Nathan, Jacqueline, Sylvia, Timothy and Alden. (Hope I didn't miss anyone). Congrats guys, and girls, welcome to the family! Yeah.....
